Bacteria Water

Oneida Shores Beach is closed to swimming because of high E.coli levels. – CNY Central

According to the Onondaga County Health Department, the swimming pool at Oneida Shores Beach in Cicero will be closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water.

The swimming pool will be closed until the bacteria levels are acceptable. Health Department staff will monitor the water levels in the lake daily until they reach acceptable standards. For information on reopening, the public can visit the Onondaga County Parks web site.

E. coli is generally harmless, or causes only brief diarrhea. Although only certain types of bacteria can cause gastrointestinal illnesses, the presence E. coli bacteria in water is an indication of increased bacterial activity. Contact your healthcare provider if you are experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.

Note that the normal operating hours at Oneida Shores will not be affected. Onondaga County Parks recommends that the public use Jamesville Beach instead of Oneida Shores while swimming is prohibited.
