Bacteria Water

Spryfield Beach added to list in Halifax area of unsafe swimming areas

Halifax Regional Municipality advises people and pets not to swim at Cunard Pond in Spryfield.

HRM has stated that due to the high levels of bacteria, an advisory on water quality will continue until further notice.

According to the municipal, high levels of bacteria can be caused by many factors. These include dogs, birds, animals, and climate change impacts such as higher temperatures, lower levels of water, and recent heavy rain.

The staff will continue to test the water, and the advisory will only be lifted when the bacteria levels reach the guidelines of Health Canada.

Birch Cove, Shubie Park and other beaches in HRM are listed as unsafe for swimming.
