Swimmers advised to avoid the area after bacteria discovered near Oak Island Pier

OAK ISLAND (N.C.) (WECT – Wednesday) – The NC Recreational Water Quality Program has announced that a swim advisory is pending at the public access beach at Ocean Drive and Keziah Street, Oak Island.

Initial tests revealed a bacteria count of 124 Enterococci, according to the state. Keziah Street lies just across the street from Oak Island Pier at the end Womble Street.

The announcement states that “Tests on resamples collected today will determine further action.”
